Psychiatric Care

Innovative Counseling is a therapeutic clinic where therapists and prescribers team together to offer quality treatment services. Psychiatric treatment involves the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health conditions. It typically includes a combination of therapy, medication, and other interventions tailored to individual needs.

Innovative Counseling’s prescribers and therapists work collaboratively to provide comprehensive care and support to individuals experiencing emotional distress or mental illness with the goal being to alleviate symptoms, improve quality of life, and promote overall well-being. Genetic testing is available through GeneSight to provide best options for medications based on individual genetic makeup.

Our prescribers are available for clients actively engaged in ongoing therapy at our clinic. To access our Psychiatric Clinic, clients must consult with their therapist for a referral.

The Referral Process

1. Begin by seeing a therapist in our clinic for psychotherapy. Discuss with your therapist if a Psychiatric Evaluation would be beneficial for your treatment.

2. Your therapist can make the referral for you (after a minimum of 2 therapy sessions). The referral will include a referral form and releases of information for current and past providers.

3.Our psychiatric team will request and review your medical records from other providers and then will contact you to schedule a Psychiatric Evaluation.

4. Continue seeing your therapist throughout the referral process, and after you begin psychiatric care. Being in ongoing therapy is a required to maintain access to our psychiatric services.

5. Attend Psychiatric Evaluation with prescriber (1 hour appointment). These cannot be rescheduled if missed or canceled with less than 24 hour notice.

FAQs

  • Typically, a psychiatric evaluation takes an interview format and can be completed in one hour.

The prescriber will ask you to describe your symptoms, the time and circumstances of when your symptoms began, and ask you to recall any patterns of your symptoms. They will ask about your health history, family situation and any family history of similar problems. You may be encouraged to talk about your childhood, any support systems you have (family, friends and community) and your general wellbeing.

  • If medication is prescribed to treat your condition, it is important for the prescriber to follow up on a regular basis to ensure that the treatment is working and that there are no adverse side effects. You will be asked to schedule short appointments (30 minutes) for your progress to be monitored and medications to be adjusted as needed.
